Frequently asked questions
Who can join the referral program?
Anyone with an SHS Prep account: students, parents, or family members. If you don't have an account yet, sign up free and your personal referral link is ready immediately. You don't need to be a paying customer to start referring.
How much does my friend save?
Your friend gets 20% off their first plan when they sign up through your personal link. The discount is applied automatically at checkout. The 20% cannot be combined with other promotions or sale prices.
When does my reward become available?
After your friend completes their qualifying purchase, there's a 45-day verification period before your reward is ready to claim. This protects both of you from chargebacks and refund reversals. Rewards already earned before the campaign deadline keep moving through verification even after the campaign ends.
How do I claim my reward?
Once a reward is ready, a parent or legal guardian enters their full name on the referral dashboard. We email them a secure menu of approved choices (Amazon.com Gift Card, Virtual Visa Prepaid Card, or a Physical Visa Prepaid Card) and they pick what they want. Reward recipients must be 18 or older.
How long does the offer last?
The Friends & Family campaign runs from August 31 through September 13, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET. Your friend must complete their qualifying purchase before the deadline for the reward to count. The pilot is capped at 100 paid conversions or $5,000 in total reward liability, whichever comes first.
What if my friend's family can't afford SHS Prep at all?
SHS Prep scholarships are available for any NYC middle school student whose family can't afford the platform. No GPA cutoff, no essay. The application takes about five minutes. Apply at shsprep.com/signup/scholarship or email team@shsprep.com.
