In-person SHSAT tutoring in NYC typically runs $1,500 to $6,000 for a full prep cycle. Centers charge for scheduling, commute, and one-on-one time. We built SHS Prep to be a comprehensive alternative: 10 mock exams and thousands of practice questions your child can work through on their own schedule, at their own pace, for a one-time payment. It is not a replacement for a dedicated tutor if that's what your budget allows, but it is the closest thing to a tutor that fits into a normal family's budget and a busy kid's week. We wanted to make a fully comprehensive platform that can stand on its own for students who can't afford the center or the tutor.

How much time does it take? Will my kid actually stick with it?

Most students do 10 to 15 minutes a day, 4 to 5 days a week. The whole system is built for short, focused sessions. The dashboard shows streaks and progress, which is what keeps most kids coming back. There is no required schedule. Log in, do a drill, log out. Ten minutes a day is enough to see real movement on the score report.

All plans are one-time payments or auto-cancel. No surprise charges after test day.

We offer free and discounted accounts on a case-by-case basis for any NYC middle school student whose family can't afford the platform. No GPA cutoff. We want SHS Prep to be accessible to all. The application takes about 5 minutes. SHS Prep was built to be a standalone tool for students who wouldn't otherwise have access to prep, not a luxury add-on.
