To send official SAT scores, use College Board's score-sending process, select the correct institution, choose complete test-date reports according to that institution's policy, and review the order before submitting it. First check whether your college requires an official report at this stage or gives separate self-reporting instructions.
Do not assume that entering a score into an application automatically orders a College Board report. Likewise, ordering a report does not complete the college application itself.
Make a recipient worksheet before ordering
For every destination, record the institution's name, campus, identifying code when provided, testing policy, reporting instructions, and deadline. Use the college's official admissions page for the relevant entry year.
Your worksheet should distinguish these tasks:

A score can be sent successfully while still waiting to be matched in a college's system. Keeping the steps separate helps you identify where a problem exists.
Follow the official Weekend sending process
College Board's SAT Weekend instructions direct students to sign in, open Send SAT Scores, search recipients by name or code, select scores for each recipient, and review the order before checkout.
Slow down at the recipient step. Similar institution names, multiple campuses, and separate programs can make a quick search ambiguous. Compare the selected destination with the official admissions instructions rather than clicking the first familiar name.
Then inspect the dates you selected. If the institution requires all scores, do not assume that a personal preference for the highest result overrides that requirement. If the college permits a choice, follow the permitted selection method.
Save the confirmation in a folder you can find later. A screenshot of an unfinished cart is not an order receipt.
Understand what Score Choice sends
Score Choice operates by test date. It does not let you send only Reading and Writing from one date and only Math from another. Complete SAT results from selected dates are sent; a college may then apply its own superscoring policy.
For an original example, suppose one test has your strongest Math section and another your strongest Reading and Writing section. If the college's instructions require both dates for its evaluation, select both complete reports. Do not search for a nonexistent “send only the best sections” option.
This distinction also matters when self-reporting. An application may ask for specific section highs and dates, but that interface does not change what an official College Board report contains.
Free score-report windows differ by administration
For SAT Weekend, College Board currently provides up to four free score sends per registration, with selections or changes available through nine days after testing. For School Day, the free selection window is during setup or within three days after testing, following school instructions.
Use the relevant official page: Weekend score sends or School Day score sends. The School Day process uses the test's Bluebook sign-in information.
The choice involves timing as well as cost. A free selection deadline may arrive before you know the result. Decide based on the receiving college's rules and your circumstances; do not wait past the deadline under the assumption that free sends remain available indefinitely.
Students with eligible fee-waiver benefits have additional score-report support. Check those benefits before paying for reports.
Allow time for sending and matching
College Board currently describes standard electronic delivery as typically five to ten business days after an order. Rush delivery is available only for released scores and is described as one to four business days. These are sending timelines, not a guarantee of when an applicant portal will update.
The receiving institution may need additional processing time. A weekend, holiday, account mismatch, or incomplete application can also complicate your interpretation of the portal.
Work backward from the institution's actual rule. Does it require receipt by a date, accept a test taken by a date, or permit later updates? Those are different conditions. If unclear, ask admissions before relying on an assumption.
Check fees before checkout
The current SAT fee page lists additional reports at $15 per report and rush service at $31, with additional report charges still applying. These figures were checked September 6, 2026; confirm the current checkout total and any fee-waiver benefit.
Do not pay for rush service simply because an application deadline feels close. First determine whether the scores are released, whether an official report is needed immediately, and whether the institution's policy gives another permitted route.
A faster sending service cannot create a score that has not been released. It also cannot guarantee the receiving institution's internal processing speed.
What to do when a college says the score is missing
Start with the order record. Confirm the recipient, score dates, order date, and completed status. Then compare your identifying information across the testing and application accounts.
Next, read the college portal's stated processing guidance. If the expected window has passed, contact the institution with a concise summary: your applicant identifier, the report order date, and the destination selected. Do not send passwords or full account screenshots containing unnecessary personal information.
If the problem appears to be an uncompleted or incorrect College Board order, use College Board's support process. Avoid repeatedly purchasing duplicate reports before locating the actual issue.
Do not send a practice calculation as an official result

Enter official results where an application requests official testing history. If an application asks about planned future testing, follow that field's instructions rather than presenting a practice estimate as a completed test.
A final five-minute review
Before confirming an order, check the exact recipient, permitted test dates, applicable deadline, fee or waiver, and contact information. Afterward, save the receipt and set one reminder to verify receipt after the stated processing window.
This process is mostly administrative, but accuracy matters. A careful five-minute review is more useful than discovering after a deadline that the right scores went to the wrong campus.
