Start free SAT preparation by choosing the right resource for the task. Use a full official test for a broad checkpoint, a question bank for a specific skill, and a lesson or tutor when you need an explanation. Collecting more questions is not the same as building a plan to learn from them.

Bluebook: practice the complete digital experience
Bluebook provides official full-length digital practice tests. Use a fresh form when you want a meaningful checkpoint of your work under the intended conditions.
Before beginning, set aside time for both the test and its review. Use the device, timing, and accommodations appropriate for your preparation. Record interruptions rather than quietly treating them as standard conditions.
Afterward, use the official report and explanations. College Board’s digital-practice page is the current starting point.
Do not use every available form simply to become familiar with the buttons. Interface preview and shorter practice can teach navigation while preserving fresh forms for later checkpoints.
Student Question Bank: work on a defined skill
College Board’s Student Question Bank can be filtered by assessment, section, domain, skill, and difficulty. It is available through My Practice using the appropriate student account or school sign-in access. See the official Question Bank instructions.
Choose a narrow target before filtering. “Linear functions: interpreting slope” is more useful than opening every Math question.
Start with difficulty that allows you to practice the method, then introduce unfamiliar variations. A set containing only the hardest available questions can make a missing prerequisite difficult to identify.
Keep track of questions you have seen. When using the Educator Question Bank, its help page describes an option to exclude active practice-test questions. Still record recognized material so you do not mistake familiarity for an independent result. Educator Question Bank help.
My Practice and Tailored Practice: use feedback as a starting point
The current official practice hub describes Tailored Practice connected to SAT Suite results and Bluebook practice. Use suggested work as a prompt for investigation, then inspect your actual mistakes.
A recommendation can identify a domain worth reviewing, but you still need to determine the specific obstacle. Did you misread a comparison, forget a formula, or choose an inefficient method?
After a short quiz, explain the result before starting another. If you cannot reconstruct a solution independently, return to instruction on the concept.
Do not interpret a small quiz result as a replacement for a scaled full-test report.
Khan Academy: learn and apply a concept
Khan Academy’s official SAT preparation includes Math and Reading and Writing material organized into skill areas and levels. It can be useful when a question explanation assumes knowledge you need to build. Visit the official SAT course.
Use a lesson to answer a specific question. For example, if you do not understand why a quadratic has two roots, study that concept and then solve a fresh example.
Pause before the explanation supplies every step. Try the next step yourself, then compare your reasoning.
A completed video is not the same as an independently usable method. Follow instruction with a problem whose wording or numbers differ from the example.
Free live support: check the current offering
College Board links to free peer-led SAT tutoring through Schoolhouse.world. Check the program’s current eligibility, schedule, and sign-up information rather than assuming every session is available to every student. Before a session, prepare one or two questions and show what you tried. “I cannot decide which quantity is the denominator” helps a tutor focus the explanation.
Afterward, solve a fresh variation without help. The value of live support is clearer when it changes what you can do independently.
Your school may also have office hours, study groups, or counseling support. Ask what is actually available rather than assuming a paid service is the only route to feedback.
Paper practice: useful with the right label
College Board also provides nonadaptive paper practice. Use the scoring guide associated with the exact form.
A paper-practice range is not a digital SAT score, and digital correct-answer totals cannot be dropped into a paper table. The SAT score calculator makes this distinction and includes the named Paper Practice Test 6 worksheet.
Paper can be useful for working through concepts away from a screen or for preparation tied to an approved paper testing arrangement. Match practice to the relevant conditions rather than treating every PDF as the same exam.
Combine resources in a learning sequence
Here is an original example for a student who misses percentage-change questions:
- Inspect the missed question and identify the wrong denominator.
- Use a lesson to distinguish original amount, new amount, and change.
- Solve a few targeted official questions.
- Explain one incorrect answer without the solution visible.
- Return to the skill in a mixed set on another day.
Each resource has a job. The sequence does not require buying a course or opening every available website.
For a reading example, replace the concept lesson with a model of identifying claims and evidence, then practice that decision on fresh texts.
Preserve useful practice evidence
Keep a simple record with the date, source, form or skill, whether the question was new, and the first decision that failed.
Avoid copying secure or unauthorized test material from unofficial sources. Use the released practice materials the provider makes available.
When sharing a question with a teacher or tutor, include your reasoning rather than only the answer letter. That turns the conversation toward learning.
Do not compare a repeated, untimed set with a fresh timed test as if the scores measured the same conditions.
