Use the conversion for your practice form
The Enhanced ACT has 50 English, 45 Math, 36 Reading, and, if taken, 40 Science questions. These delivered counts include unscored questions. The official practice forms used here score 40 English, 41 Math, 27 Reading, and 34 Science questions.
Select the actual official practice form before entering answers. Practice Tests 1 and 2 have different conversion tables. For example, 35 scored English answers convert to 29 on Test 1 and 30 on Test 2. A raw count does not have one universal ACT conversion.
Scored answers versus all delivered answers
If you used the selected form’s answer key and excluded its unscored items, choose scored answers. The tool looks up the exact practice-form scale score for each completed section.
If you only know how many answers you got right across all delivered questions, choose all answers. The result is a possible range because the total does not say which correct answers were unscored. With 30 correct out of 50 English questions, for example, the scored count could be between 20 and 30: up to 10 correct answers may have been unscored. The tool converts each eligible scored count using the selected form’s table.
These are mathematical bounds, not a prediction that every result in the interval is equally likely. The calculator never proportionally rescales your total to guess which answers counted.
How the Enhanced ACT Composite is calculated
The Composite averages English, Math, and Reading, rounded to the nearest whole number. Science is excluded. Section scores of 24, 27, and 28 yield an average of 26.33 and a Composite of 26.
All three required section scores must be present. A blank input means you have not entered that section; zero means you attempted it and got zero scored answers correct. Those are different situations.
Older ACT calculators may average four sections or use the legacy 215-question test. Those rules and tables do not belong in an Enhanced ACT practice calculation.
Optional Science and the STEM score
When Math and Science are both entered, the STEM score is their average, rounded to the nearest whole number. For example, Math 25 and Science 26 produce STEM 26. Removing Science removes the STEM result and leaves the Composite unchanged.
Use sections from the same administration for this calculation. It is not a superscore calculator, and it does not calculate Writing or an English Language Arts score.
Make the result useful
Keep a record of the exact form, timing conditions, section scores, and recurring mistakes. Compare your own practice sessions cautiously when the format or timing changes. Choose a skill to review and use a fresh practice set to check whether your reasoning improved.
The tables apply to the named official practice forms. Entering totals from a different test or original SHSPrep questions does not produce an officially equated ACT score. Use your official report when sending scores to colleges.
Common questions
Why does the slider maximum change between modes?
Scored mode excludes the unscored items identified by the selected answer key. All-answers mode accepts the full delivered section count. Recheck the source of your counts when switching modes; the calculator does not silently convert them.
Does Science affect my Composite?
No. The Enhanced ACT Composite uses English, Math, and Reading. Optional Science contributes to the separate STEM score with Math.
Is this an official ACT calculator?
No. SHSPrep is independent. This tool uses the named official practice keys and conversion tables linked below.
